Mercer Island, King's take honors

Mercer Island and King's were among the winners of the WIAA's Scholastic Cup, an award given to the school in each classification with the best overall athletic and academic performance.

Mercer Island won Class 3A state championships in boys swimming, girls cross-country and girls tennis, but the Islanders really pulled away from second-place Bellevue with five academic state titles. King's won the Class 1A award after winning four athletic championships — boys golf, boys track, girls cross-country and girls volleyball — and seven academic titles.

Archbishop Murphy near Mill Creek narrowly finished second behind Squalicum of Bellingham in the Class 2A competition.

Bear Creek of Redmond was the 2B champion.
